Research: In ageing human skin fibroblast cultures, AED lowered MMP-9 synthesis and raised the proliferation marker Ki-67, and with the tetrapeptide AEDG it reduced caspase-dependent apoptosis (Lin'kova et al, Bull Exp Biol Med 2016;161(1):175-178, PMID 27259496). In renal cell cultures it raised proliferation and lowered the ageing markers p16, p21 and p53 (Khavinson et al, Adv Gerontol 2014;27(4):651-656, PMID 25946838, in Russian). Both are cell-culture studies. No study of cartilage or joints in people was located, despite the name.
