Research: The approved indication is narrow. It covers acquired, generalised HSDD in premenopausal women, and the label explicitly does NOT cover desire loss attributable to a medical or psychiatric condition, to relationship problems, or to a medication. It acts on central melanocortin pathways rather than on genital blood flow.
Side effects: From the label: nausea 40.0%, starting about 30 minutes after dosing with a median duration of 2.4 hours, flushing 20.3%, injection site reactions 13.2%, headache 11.3%, vomiting 4.8%, a transient blood pressure rise of about 6 mmHg systolic and 3 mmHg diastolic, with contraindication in uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease, focal hyperpigmentation, more likely above 8 doses a month, which the label says may not resolve after stopping
